Sanctum: Tina Hainschwang at Sotheby's Artist Quarterly

Welcome back, art enthusiasts! Today, we delve into Tina Hainschwang's exhibition, "Sanctum," at Sotheby's Artist Quarterly. This transformative showcase features sculptures and wall works that reimagine the exhibition space as an intimate salon. Let's explore the fusion of familiar and uncanny elements, blurring the lines between eroticism and discomfort.

Tina Hainschwang: A Journey of Contrasts

Although Hainschwang initially studied painting at the University of Art and Design Linz, her passion gradually shifted towards the realm of sculptures and spatial interventions. Her installations, incorporating hair resembling weeping willows or sculptures reminding of erotic toys, embody contrasting emotions. Her objects reveal an interplay of softness and sorrow, especially visible in her sculptures. With surfaces reminiscent of massage balls, the objects combine cast acrylic resin and ceramic plaster for a hardened touch.

A Sensory Encounter at Sotheby's

Art in Vienna visited the exhibition as part of an event called Art Brunch, which took place at in the morning of 15th June 2023 at the auction house Sotheby's. Guests were treated to coffee, juices, and a variety of delicious pastries, including warm and crunchy croissants. The Art Brunch was organized by Parnass Artlife, a members-only club run by the well-known Austrian art magazine Parnass. Anyone can become a member and enjoy the art events organized exclusively for this group of art enthusiasts by Parnass. At Sotheby's, Hainschwang adapts her pieces to suit the space. Harmonizing with the living room ambiance, she gave the showroom a new twist through her choice of colours: barbiecore pink and lack-leather black.

The Artistry of Contradiction

Hainschwang masterfully interweaves opposing elements, invoking fascination and uncertainty. Her sculptures and wall works embody the uncanny, blurring the line between familiar and unsettlingly strange. Additionally, Hainschwang's art presents a captivating interplay of color and texture. The marbling effect, achieved through spray techniques and delicate tracings, adds a touch of kitsch, inviting viewers to embark on a deeper exploration.
