Preview: Upcoming reviews - a busy fall for Art in Vienna

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

Launching this blog in the fall is not a coincidence. This time of the year is probably one of the busiest ones for Vienna's art scene.

September usually starts with two equally important art fairs, Vienna Contemporary and Parallel Vienna. Usually, they both happen during the same time, though not this year. Vienna Contemporary starts on 2nd September and runs until 5th September. Parallel Vienna then continues from 7th September on. Another novelty is this years' locations.

Vienna Contemporary decided to abandon its traditional exhibition space at the Marx Halle in Simmering, one of Vienna's traditional workers' districts. Instead, Vienna Contemporary takes up residence in Vienna's City Center, at the Old Postsparkasse. Whether this was a strategically beneficial move remains to be seen. Art in Vienna will review the art fairs and their new locations for you.

Another important event for Vienna's art calendar is the city's gallery festival, called Curated by. An incredible number of galleries are participating again this year and open their (anyways always open) doors to interested visitors. During that time, these galleries transform from predominantly commercial spaces to merely exhibition spaces, showcasing the gallery's portfolio and inviting visitors to get to know new talents and new artworks and provide a space for discussions. Art in Vienna will review some of those galleries and exhibitions for you. This review includes those besides the trodden paths and who might not feature as dominantly in the public eye as those who have agreed to cooperate with the Contemporary Vienna art fair.

All this is only the start of a very busy fall for Vienna's art scene, and without doubt, for the Art in Vienna blog. So stay tuned for more - coming soon to your favourite electronic device!
